Eoin is a Professor at University College Dublin and Director of the Centre for Constitutional Studies. He is the author of \u2018The New Separation of Powers\u2019 (Oxford University Press, 2009) and many other articles on constitutionalism across journals in the fields of law, political science and psychology. Silvia Gagliardi works as a Senior Research and Analysis Adviser\/Deputy Team Leader\u00a0in a European Research Council-funded project on the ‘Foundations of Institutional Authority’ (FIAT),\u00a0in the Sutherland School of Law at University College Dublin (UCD). She holds a Doctorate in Human Rights (2018) from the Irish Centre for Human Rights, School of Law, University of Galway, Ireland. Her research examines women\u2019s rights and gender, gender-based violence and hate crimes, intersectional discrimination, and gender and populism. She is also interested in decolonial feminism and feminist legal theory.

\u00a0Prior to joining UCD, Silvia worked for ten years for various international organisations and NGOs, including the Organization for Security and Co-operation(OSCE)\/Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (Poland); Trocaire (Ireland); the Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (Tunisia and Lebanon); three OSCE\u2019s field operations (Kosovo, Bosnia-Herzegovina and North Macedonia); the Human Solidarity Group (Sri Lanka); and Amnesty International (USA). Silvia was a focal point for the Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) in different organisations and currently lectures in this area at UCD Centre for Humanitarian Action. She is also rostered as a \u2018Gender and SGBV Adviser\u2019 in both Irish Aid Rapid Response and CANADEM Rosters, as a \u2018Gender Consultant\u2019 for UN FAO, and as a \u2018Human Rights Officer\u2019 for UN OHCHR.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Daniela holds a PhD in Criminology (2020) from the University of Edinburgh, MSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Edinburgh (2015). Her background is in legal and forensic psychology, assessing young people in need of protection for the Chilean Family Court, and working directly with young people who displayed sexually harmful behaviour for the Chilean Youth Justice System. Her working experience also involves teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level, including preparing social workers and psychologists to work with the Family Court in Chile or with young people in trouble in the Chilean Youth Justice System.<\/span><\/p>

Her research interests focus on sociology of punishment, policy making, youth justice and children\u2019s rights. Her research has been dedicated to explaining and understanding why and how societies create new institutions, evolve and change. Particularly, she focuses on the drivers behind crime control and security policy making, such as human rights, the needs of vulnerable citizens, poverty, discrimination, power distribution, democracy, populism, authoritarianism, political economy, accountability and the interaction between citizens and the state. She has a strong focus on social sciences, qualitative methods, and ethics, together with a keen interest in research.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Demian holds a PhD in Law from the Sutherland School of Law, University College Dublin, where he was awarded a European Research Council PhD scholarship. He also holds a Law degree and a Specialisation diploma in Administrative Law and Public Administration from the University of Buenos Aires.<\/p>

Prior to joining UCD, Demian worked as Complaint Channel Coordinator and Advisor to the Head of the Anti-Corruption Office in Argentina, contributing to the design and implementation of public policies on integrity, transparency, and whistleblower protection. He has also taught Constitutional and Administrative Law at the University of Buenos Aires and the National University Jos\u00e9 C. Paz, and served as Assistant Professor of Professional Practice at the Civil Association for Equality and Justice (ACIJ).<\/div>

Demian’s publications explore issues related to judicial councils, citizen assemblies, whistleblower protection, institutional strengthening, transparency in public decision-making, freedom of expression, access to information, and human rights. Orlaith<\/span> is a PhD candidate <\/span>at<\/span> the Sutherland School of Law, University College Dublin (UCD). Somsubhra is a PhD student at the Sutherland School of Law, University College Dublin (UCD). As part of the European Research Council (ERC) funded Foundations of Institutional Authority project led by Professor Eoin Carolan, his research focuses on the relationship between populist movements and the doctrine of separation of powers.\u00a0 Somsubhra completed his undergraduate degree [B.A. LL. B (Hons.)] in law from the National Law School of India University, Bangalore. He worked for a year as a lawyer dealing primarily in general corporate and commercial practices. Somsubhra completed his master\u2019s degree (MSc) from the United Nations University and Maastricht University in Public Policy and Human Development. He was employed as a political consultant with the Indian Political Action Committee where he worked on campaign design and project management. Tom Kelly is a postdoctoral researcher on the ERC funded project the Foundations of
Institutional Authority, hosted be the Sutherland School of Law. He holds a PhD in
Psychology (University of Warwick), completed an Early Career Fellowship (Warwick’s
Institute of Advanced Studies) an MSc in Psychology (Leeds Beckett University) an Ma in
Human Rights Globalisation and Justice and an LLB in Law and Criminology (both from
Keele University).<\/p>

His doctoral studies focused on the development of a novel associative learning paradigm to
better understand the learning or maintenance of conspiracy beliefs. His current work is
working upon building experimental designs to complement the existing qualitative and
theoretical work of the FIAT project. His research interests include conspiracy beliefs,

Maxime assists Professor Eoin Carolan with constitutional theory research \u2013 on inter
alia fourth branch constitutionalism and reconciling separation of powers doctrines
with the administrative state \u2013 within and beyond the FIAT project. He holds an MA in Political Science from the University of Chicago, funded by the United States Department of State (Fulbright Grant) and the University of Chicago (Maroon Research Scholarship), and a BA in Politics, Philosophy, and Law from the University of Warwick.<\/p>

At the former he completed a thesis titled ‘Towards Justifying and Actualising the Political Conception of Justice: Rawlsian Lacunae of Democratic Design and the Path of Plebeian Assemblies’. At the latter he served as RA to Professor David Vitale (administrative law), researched neighbourhood policy under Professor Marc Stears (University College London Policy Lab), edited the Warwick Undergraduate Law Journal, and enjoyed an Erasmus year at Sciences Po Bordeaux.<\/p>

His research passions centre on democratic and constitutional theory, are drawn from across the social sciences and humanities and law, and are presently devoted to developing a doctoral project provisionally titled ‘Making Deliberative Mini-Publics Work in Oligarchic Times \u2013 The Promise of Plebeian Political Liberalism’. Beyond the academy, Maxime has worked for the British (International Strategy Division, DWP UK) and European (DG for Structural Reform Support, EU Commission) publics, catalogued and collated antiquarian books (Peter Harrington), and campaigned against capital punishment (The Death Penalty Project). In his spare time he partakes in the dubious tranquilities of karate, and running the daily political publication Europinion.<\/p><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Deirdre is the ERC Project Manager in the Sutherland School of Law, having previously held the position of Research and Innovation Manager. She is a graduate of UCD with a BA in Economics and MSc in Environmental Management. She spent over 10 years working in the financial services sector and has recently become a PhD candidate in the Sutherland School of Law, focusing on the impact of cryptocurrencies on regulation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Deirdre is the project manager for PROPERTY[IN]JUSTICE and two other ERC research projects hosted at the Sutherland School of Law: Effective Nature Laws, led by Prof Suzanne Kingston, and The Foundations of Institutional Authority, led by Prof Eoin Carolan.
